To some, the Pacific Rim is the true embodiment of the West Coast. With rugged coastlines, windblown trees, and often blanketed in a low hanging fog, there is an awe-inspiring ambiance here. A widespread of vegetation make up the rainforests including Western Hemlock, Sitka Spruce and Western Red Cedar. The forests are teaming with wildlife including wolves, bears and cougars and off the coast live many marine species including mammals, birds, and fish.
The Alberni Valley is the gateway to the British Columbia’s Pacific Rim. Here you can find Cathedral Grove, home to towering ancient Douglas Fir trees, some more than 800 years old. Port Alberni is also the entrance to the Alberni Inlet, one of Vancouver Islands largest inlets.
The Broken Group Islands are an archipelago resembling pieces of a broken jigsaw puzzle. The area is abundant in marine life from sealions and seals to oyster catchers and bald eagles. Many First Nations Relics and be found among the Broken Group Islands.
